Man Charged After Being Caught With Various Weapons & Over 1,000 Rounds Of Ammo At North Carolina A&T

A 27-year-old named Brandon James Bentley was recently charged after being found with a large arsenal at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T).

The Suspect Was Caught On Campus With A Plethora Of Weapons

According to WGHP, Bentley was taken into custody last Sunday after being found at N.C. A&T—a historically Black college and university (HBCU)—with a rifle, a revolver, a loaded handgun, and two shotguns.

Additionally, WXII 12 reports that he had over 1,000 rounds of ammunition on him at the time of his arrest, which occurred at around 4 a.m.

However, that wasn’t all that Bentley was packin’, as he was also found in possession of brass knuckles, a hatchet, a machete, a stun gun, pepper spray, a baton, and numerous knives.

He was also caught with some more obscure items, including a crossbow, a “blowdart weapon,” a sword, “choking devices,” and “claws”—along with what was described as a “makeshift firework explosive.”

Among the objects that were reportedly found in Bentley’s possession, he was also puzzlingly equipt with “holy water,” as well as a chicken foot.

As a result, he was hit with separate charges of possessing a firearm, explosive, and non-gun weapon on educational property. He was also charged with carrying a concealed gun, driving with a suspended license, and reckless driving.

Bentley reportedly had his bail set to $100,000, and it’s unclear if he’s still in custody.

Brandon James Bentley Has No Affiliation With N.C. A&T & Has Been Banned

WXII 12 notes that, in response to Bentley’s arrest, N.C. A&T released a statement to shed further light on the situation.

“On March 26 at approximately 4 a.m., Brandon James Bentley was arrested on the North Carolina A&T State University campus after being encountered driving unsafely in the area of Sullivan Street and Benbow Road. After campus law enforcement discovered weapons in the vehicle, Bentley was immediately arrested, and the weapons confiscated.”

The institution also noted, “Because of the quick and decisive action of law enforcement, a campus alert was not issued, as the suspect no longer constituted an ongoing threat to campus safety.”

After pointing out that a joint investigation between numerous agencies is underway, N.C. A&T declared that Bentley—who “has no affiliation” with the school—has been banned.

“The FBI, State Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Greensboro Police Department are in charge of an ongoing joint investigation into this incident. Bentley, who has no affiliation with A&T, has been banned from the North Carolina A&T campus.”

There are no further updates to the situation at this time.
